Locknote by Scorchsoft
Terms of use
Version 2 October 2026 · Business-use draft for legal review
Who provides the tool
Locknote by Scorchsoft is provided by Scorchsoft Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (07246693), whose registered office is 13 Portland Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 9HN. These terms cover the tool; a separate written agreement with Scorchsoft takes priority where it expressly covers the same matter.
Permitted use
This tool is intended for business users and authorised collaborators. You must have permission to use it and authority to share the information you submit. Do not use it for unsolicited messages, phishing, harassment, unlawful material, infringement, unauthorised access or attempts to bypass limits. Scorchsoft may restrict or suspend access reasonably to address misuse, security incidents or legal requirements.
Your content and responsibilities
You retain your rights in your content and permit Scorchsoft to process the encrypted payload and associated metadata only to operate and secure the service. You are responsible for the accuracy, lawfulness and intended recipients of what you share. Check addresses, use a neutral optional title, and prefer sending the link and password through separate channels (a combined message is less protective if the same inbox receives verification). Do not use the tool as the only copy of information, as permanent storage or for emergency or safety-critical communications.
Temporary access and deletion
Notes cannot be edited after creation. After creation you may link the note to your email within 24 hours, while it remains active. If you do not link it, the note cannot appear in My notes and you cannot delete it before expiry. Access ends at the chosen expiry or earlier deletion, and content may become unavailable if access is suspended or the service is withdrawn. Scorchsoft cannot recover a lost sharing password or remove a copy a recipient has already saved. Active-data cleanup and backup retention are described in the Privacy notice; expiry is not a promise that every backup disappears at that instant.
Availability and security
The tool is offered on an “as is” and “as available” basis, to the extent permitted by law. No service level, uninterrupted availability, fitness for a particular purpose or absolute security is promised unless expressly agreed in writing. You must assess whether the tool is suitable for your information. These terms do not override express commitments, statutory obligations or the safeguards actually described by Scorchsoft.
Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Scorchsoft excludes implied warranties and liability for indirect or consequential business loss, lost profit, revenue, opportunity or anticipated savings arising from use of the tool. Scorchsoft does not verify or endorse user content. Nothing excludes or restricts liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability, data-protection obligation or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. No financial liability cap is set in this draft; it requires legal review against the intended users, risks and any existing client contracts.
Law, disputes and changes
The law of England and Wales governs these terms. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights to use another court and any overriding written agreement. The service is intended for business use; mandatory consumer rights are preserved if they nevertheless apply. Material changes will be clearly notified and renewed acceptance requested where needed. Changes will not retrospectively remove accrued rights.
